What was needed?
rECOrd a biodiversity charity operating out of Chester Zoo. They needed a
'portal' that would allow subscribers to view local biodiversity data such as
the amount of toads in a certain grid square.
What was created?
The portal was delivered using a Googlemap, the map displays information about
which species they have searched for, in the area and year range specified. The
data is retrived from over 40 million records owned by the National Biodiversity
Network and over 1.4 million records from rECOrd showing a high level of detail.
What made it different?
The whole project was unique and originally complicated. The user process was
simplified by adding an autocomplete for the latin species names and allowing
users to create a 'species list' to search for.
